Lalangia
Lalangia, fried dough ribbons, are a Messinian tradition that were always served, and still are, in every house during the major religious festivals.
On Christmas Eve, especially, great importance was paid to their preparation, when they were given shapes, apart from the classical coils, that reflected Christmas motifs, such as stars, crosses, and the like.
Today the tradition continues, both in houses and in bakeries and sweet shops, as well as cultural societies in some places over the holidays.
The ingredients are simple: one kilo of flour, a cup of olive oil, an envelope of dry yeast, salt, a little tepid water and oil for frying.
