Yiamas Gastro Bar is a restaurant-bar on the Kalamata beach; it belongs to the Elite City Resort hotel complex. Just a few steps from the lovely seafront of the Messinian gulf with the imposing hulk of Mt Taygetos towering over it, visitors can enjoy the view from the impressive pool and the large wooden deck, while the interiors and winter room are beautifully designed to convey a fresh and relaxed atmosphere.
Since its inauguration in 2015, the restaurant has won many admirers as well as awards. And it is even open during the winter months.
Yiamas Gastro Bar has introduced new methods and practices in order to make the place as pleasant and welcoming as possible. Every day there’s a DJ to take you to exotic places as well as to the Greece of yesteryear via new arrangements of old favourites.
One of its best features is the impressive bar with its rare collection of premium brands and special Greek-flavoured cocktails made to measure for the customer. Here, for example, you can taste the ‘nectar of Messinia’, which is an exceptional blend of aged Kosteas tsipouro, seasoned with vanilla and olive sugars, prickly pear with citrus and fresh mint, or you could experiment with Yiamas’ mixologist who designs cocktails from local wines, tsipouros or ouzos.
The menu of Yiamas Gastro Bar is Mediterranean as well as Greek, based mainly on the local gastronomic heritage of Messinian Mani. One dish that stands out and should not be missed is the ‘millefeuille’ with grilled talagani, roasted vegetables and basil pesto. Talagani is a local cheese that resembles the halloumi of Cyprus and it goes beautifully with the roasted veg topped off with pesto. A more traditional regional classic with a long history is the codfish ‘tsiladia’ with tomato chutney, black currants, roasted pearl onions and fennel puree. But the ‘best seller’ is the pork fillet with traditional homemade trahana (rustic pasta) from Mani with aubergines and creamed feta.
