Guesthouse Kalderimi in Mouresi

The Hotel Kalderimi is a beautiful guest house in Mouresi made with passion by beautiful people who left their careers in Athens to live and share their love for its magical mountain Pelion.

Mouresi is not one of the famous divas of Pelion, such as Portaria, Makrinitsa, Milies, Tsagarada, but it is a quiet village of East Pelion, amphitheater, overgrown with plane trees, chestnuts, apples, hydrangeas, and possibly not had anyone heard if the troubadour of modern Greece Dionysis Savvopoulos did not come to write the lyrics of the song "I speak to you and you blush":

Night shaving
They lit lights in all the villages
The winged days of the Holy Trinity came
The village of Mouresi has been dancing since yesterday

Around Agia Triada with the wood-carved iconostasis, under the linden trees of the Square, where you eat or drink your tsipouro overlooking the Aegean, -or walk for food to the other three wonderful taverns of the village, Vangelis, Tavernaki and Dew-, a cobbled path begins that takes you to Kalderimi mansion. A mansion buried in vegetation of apple trees, pears, cherries, quinces, figs and junipers overlooking the blue Aegean and in the background the top of Mount Athos.

Creators of o Xenophon Karydis studied Biology at the University, with a career - among others - 15 years as a sales manager in medical reagents, and the Elisabeth Proestaki, with studies in marketing, economics and pedagogy who worked in the period 1983-1993 at EOMMEX for the development of the Greek Small and Medium Manufacturing Industry, and for another 20 years as a teacher. The 10 years that they built the mansion and the other 8 that operate it were enough to get to know it well and due to a previous life to be able to transfer their knowledge and love to their visitors.

Elisabeth Proestaki shares with us their story:

«The Pelion we discovered it as students, in our twenties, crossing it with a small Citroen 2CV. Visits to the magic mountain have always had repetitions. And while we never had money and consent from our parents, we were looking for Pelion houses to buy. We made the contracts in the back of our minds, where our dreams lived. In 1987 we got married to Xenophon and of course again there we made our honeymoon in Xenia of Tsagarada, designed by Aris Konstantinidis. The years passed, we made wonderful daughters, our dream remained alive in the vortex of everyday life, until in 2005, when we got money, we chose Mouresi, a village, beautiful, full of trees, flowers, cobbled streets, open horizon, beautiful mansions but also just humble houses, and we bought two verdant estates and one Pelion mansion of 1794, from the few so old.

The restoration, or rather the restoration, lasted for almost 10 years, and was a period of many problems that were overcome with our perseverance, stubbornness and passion. Ecological materials were used for the construction, Mount Athos chestnut beams for the ceilings, lime colors, sheep hair on the walls, etc.

The 2013 was completed by decorating the interior of the house with works of art by young artists, ceramic sinks and hand-painted tiles by artists.

So we wanted to marry the Pelion style with the simplicity of modern lines. One was created guest house 8 rooms, consisting of the main building and its outbuildings, with a capacity of 23 people, which first opened in 2014 and the mansion was named Cobblestone path, from the cobbled path that connects the central square of the village and passes through our estate.»
