Athens Airport presents its new image

With an emphasis on functionality, service, modern design and the synthesis of Greek classical and modern elements, the areas outside Schengen (9.000 sq.m.) and inside Schengen (15.000 sq.m.) changed, with the completion of a total upgrade project. of the traveler experience at the airport. The project was designed "following" the modern needs of the travel process and experience and offers passengers renewed spaces, comfort, and more options.

Central Security Check

The first major change concerns the creation of 2 central security checkpoints at the entrances to areas outside Schengen (passports - security) and inside Schengen (boarding passes - security).

In relation to the decentralized control that existed before the project, the new layout completely separates the operational activity from the leisure at the airport. Allowing passengers to "leave behind" the central control process from the start, it now gives them the comfort of navigating the new, upgraded routes and spaces inside and outside the Schengen areas, without time pressure.

With the new central system, the efficiency of the checkpoints has increased by 20% compared to the previous infrastructure, while, at the same time, the improvement of the transfer process is important, as the transfer passengers arrive at their departure gate 10 minutes faster.

After the inspection: "Market - Gallery / Street - Square"

After being centrally inspected, passengers - in both areas - enter the upgraded areas, which, with renewed aesthetics and a wide variety of products, meet the modern trends and expectations of Greek and foreign travelers. With a new identity, more Greek references and the goal of a special and comfortable experience, cleverly designed routes welcome the public in an environment that invites for acquaintance and exploration!

  • Inspired by classical Greece, 3 distinct shopping areas were created in the area outside Schengen, on a route that starts from the "Market", reminiscent of commercial shops in Athens as it crosses the intermediate "Stoa" and, at the end of the "walk in the city" , is completed in the "Square" (focal point for departure gates), which combines shopping, food and a sense of relaxation before the flight.
  • Similarly, the area within Schengen, which has just been completed, is characterized by an interesting exchange of attractive proposals, images and experiences. Referring to a "walk in the modern city", passengers start from the "Market", cross the busy "Road", tour the "Greek Neighborhood" to reach the "Square", where they have the opportunity to explore the gastronomic variety with emphasis on Greek flavors, enjoying and giving a special color to their stay!
