During the HORECA 2017 exhibition, at the stand of the Hotel Chamber of Greece - Greek Breakfast, the Lesvos presented its local products and cooked the local delicacies that compose the Standard Breakfast of Lesvos.
It was organized by the Lesvos Hoteliers Association in collaboration with the Municipality of Lesvos. The representative of the Municipality of Lesvos, Mr. Panos Pitsios, had the coordination of the preparation and presentation of the Greek breakfast that included a large part of its dishes cuisine of Lesvos.
Lesvos, except for its natural beauties and its culture, is an island that produces Greek traditional products and has to show uniquely delicacies, which revolve around its main foodstuffs. We analyzed all this after a long time trekking to the island that we did recently.
The main products of Lesvos, which are standardized and exported from the island, are olive oil, the cheese with three PDO cheeses (feta, kasseri, oil cheese), the wine, the honey.
Here is a wide variety of traditional dishes made with homemade recipes, such as jams, pastries, pastries (the planzeta, a kind of baklava), pasta, noodles, sauces and rusks, macaroons, cookies, but also cookies χαχλες (shaped trachanas in the shape of a boat) produced by home-made and women's cooperatives.
The reputation of Lesvos cuisine has been around for a long time. THE Λουκουλος, the famous omnivorous Roman general, built a peculiar fish farm in Mytilene to trap and enjoy the famous seafood of the island, while the island was named by the Ottomans "Orchard of the Empire", because it produced everything.
The main dishes presented at the Greek Breakfast of Lesvos were:
- fried zucchini stuffed with cheese, eggs, onion and herbs,
- dolmadas with rice, chives, zucchini and herbs,
- giuzlemedes, fried cheese pies with sheet opened by hand,
- sponge with zucchini,
- hachles stuffed with pastrum, cheese and egg yolk,
- χαχλες with cheese, tomato, olives, oregano,
