Peace Coffee Shop

At Ano Meria of Folegandrou, at the entrance of the village and at a point where the road narrows and where a car can barely fit, is located the coffee shop of Irini.

He was carrying it from 1952 the father of Konstantinos Papadopoulos of Dzuanis (common name on the island). Mrs. Irini received it in 2001 when her father died.

The corridor of the cafe just fits two tables and 5-6 chairs, the inside is spacious. In the beautiful interior, the floor is an old ocher cement mortar and the ceiling has beams, while the walls are full of groceries.

"The cafe is like old, only then at the entrance we had a place where we sold fabrics, clothes and some kinds of innovations. Not much money was circulating then. The locals would come and bring their eggs or cheese and take the groceries, coffees, detergents, etc. Others would bring some cheese or zarzavatiko bass and sell it to passers-by. "Then most of the food was ours, everyone had their own garden."

The cafe-grocery-cooking operates from morning to night and is the only eatery that operates all year round. Mrs. Irini cooks at noon all day and serves those who are not heads of families in the winter. Her specialty, the classic dish of Folegandros, the bunch. Every day he makes fresh matsata, kneads them and cooks them with game, rooster, rabbit, goat or pig.

It is also worth trying the stuffed honeyed onions, the tripe (not the Thessaloniki tripe legs, but something like a cook without rice), the various pies and finally the yogurt with the sweet rose which is a poem.
