Mulberries

The family tavern «Mulberries"Has been operating since 1969, when the Dimitris Trachanas decided in the early 60s to plant a cluster of mulberries in a field, which today provide one of its thickest shades Skyros.

The homemade cuisine of the tavern "Mouries" includes cooked, grilled (her lemony kid took it first prize in the competition that took place in 2014 in Chalkida and concerned the best delicacies of Evia) and of course fresh-of-time fish and lobster spaghetti.

Most meals are made with products of the same production and delicacies come out of the wood-fired oven every day, such as goat lemonade, oil pie with sour cheese, giaprakia (dolmadas) and many more delicious dishes. Right next to the tavern is the homonymous estate, where you can see them grazing Skyrian ponies!

His first contact Manoli Trachana - son of Dimitris, born in 1977 - with the horses he was when he was watching in Kalamitsi, the narrowest part of Skyros, the animals to cross, after their wintering in the southern part of the island and to pass to the north. However, his essential contact took place when his father adopted a little girl, Astrapi. Manolis bonded with her and in his course came the idea to deal with the ponies.

Since 1995, Manolis creates the tavern of the same name Mouries Estate and begins his rescue effort Skyrian horse. In 2006 he joined a program of the Ministry of Rural Development that concerned the support of rare breeds in Greece. In 2011 he created a Non-Profit Organization called "Controlled Reproduction Area for the Rescue of the Skyrian HorseWhich today has the largest population of horses with 47 animals.

There is a volunteer program at Mouries Estate for young men and women from all over the world who are interested in contributing to the breeding of horses, while dozens of young people come to ride, taking a walk on paths and beaches of the area, but also to learn the history of the Skyrian horse and watch it as it threshes local fava beans.

A truly commendable effort is flourishing in Skyros and it is worth knowing and supporting it.
