Visit to Cavino Winery (video)

We visited her once more Cavino Winery  which has been active in the field of wine and beverage production since 1958 when it was founded by Konstantinos Anastasiou and Ioannis Douskas. The location of its modern winery is in its northwestern part Aegialia, next to privately owned vineyards, where the wine tradition reaches to the years of antiquity.

The tour was given by the wine tour guide of the Cavino company Evangelia Amanatidis, who informed us in detail about the continuous care and scientific monitoring that is done on the vines using the indigenous varieties such as Roditis, Lagorthi, Sideritis, Agiorgitiko, Mavro Kalavrytinos, the famous Mavrodaphni and the international varieties such as Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Riesling, Merlot, Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon.

We learned about self-interest Estate Mega Spilaio which is located in a location of amazing beauty (a separate video will follow), with an altitude of 880 m and a view of the Vouraikos gorge, where it produces a limited quantity of high quality wines. The history of the vineyard and the old stone winery actually begins in 1550, since it is directly connected to the monastery of the same name, which in itself is an excellent attraction of the area.

The estate and the winery were used by the monks and the must was transported by mules to the cellar of the Great Cave and decanted into 500 liter barrels. The vineyard was abandoned in 1980 and the viticulture took place in 1999 when the Cavino Winery took it over on a long-term lease from the Monastery.

Here in the beautiful vineyard of 100 acres were created the great wines Estate Mega Spilaio Syrah, Estate Mega Spilaio Lefko, Mega Spilao Moschato, Mega Spelao Calavrytino Merlot, Mega Spelao Cuvee III White, Mega Spelao Cuvee III Red.
