Tsipouro Dekaraki

Η winery - distillery of Vasdavanos, the company that today is identified with tsipouro Dekaraki has a history characterized by four stations dates.

The first was on early 20th century when Vaios Basdavanos, a viticulturist from Damasi, Tyrnavos, begins to produce and trade wine and tsipouro in his own small household.

The second was when 1958 on Dam of Tyrnavos, his 3 sons decide to continue the tradition of his father and to take advantage of the ideal conditions of the place to create remarkable wines and tsipouro, founding in 1959 the Vasdavanou Winery.

The third was the 1974 when the relocation of the winery to new modern facilities in a privately owned area of 13 acres in Giannouli of Larissa, which covers an area of about 2500 sq.m. with a production capacity of one million five hundred thousand liters of wine, its largest private winery area of Tyrnavos.

The fourth was the 2008 when the family headed by Vivi Basdavanou - with studies in oenology in France - decided that the cornerstone for the expansion of their activities would be the tsipouro. So after a lot of experimentation and testing, and after new investments in abysses, tanks and equipment that can maintain quality stability, launched in 2012 the "Ten", the tsipouro that very quickly came to shake the waters in the area of spirits.

The results were rapid. Dynamic entry in the tsipouro market, high growth rates and the emergence of the company in the four most dynamic in the industry, together with Tsililis, Papatzimopoulos and Apostolakis.

We visited Damasi Tyrnavos with him John Ghana the main viticulturist-supplier of tsipouro "Dekaraki". Of the 24.000 acres of vineyards cultivated in the municipality of Tyrnavos, 12.000 are located in the area of Damasi, where there is one of the most densely cultivated and well-kept vineyards in Greece.

We met Vivi Vasdavanou in her unit where she described her project to us:

«Dekaraki was born in Tyrnavos and closes in his bottle all the authenticity and tradition of the place. The 'Tsipouro of Tyrnavosis not a random Geographical Indication recognized and protected by the European Union. The Tyrnavos muscat variety is the "secret" of the Tyrnavos tsipouro reputation as it is considered perhaps the best variety for distillation, due to its rich aromatic character and its intense volatility.

So we are proud not only because we made "Dekaraki" a quality tsipouro with the special art of 6-fold distillation, but because we are the first to make the first single-variety tsipouro in Greece.

We are controlled by the Chemist upon receipt of the grapes and then they seal the tanks with the musk of Tyrnavos and so they have given us permission to write it on our label ".

We tried Dekaraki. A balanced, complex, with a long aftertaste, with aromas and flavors reminiscent of fig, raisin, walnut, pear, bergamot, rose and clove.

And my mind went to Ten good. To the glories of Greek football that glorified the jersey with Ten. Mimi Domazos, Giorgos Koudas, Vassilis Hatzipanagis, Giorgos Delikaris.

The Ten, with respect and love for the tradition and the high know-how in the distillation of single-variety tsipouro, presented the 2018 the first family of single-variety spirits, thus giving a new dimension of quality to tsipouro. Thus, next to Moschato Tyrnavos, Tsipouro Dekaraki adds and welcomes to the family, two new single-variety spirits, the Malaguzia and Roditi.

Each single-variety tsipouro Dekaraki is distinguished by the special, tasty and aromatic identity given to it by the exquisite grape variety from which it comes. Enjoy high quality spirits and discover their special character!

Muscat the explosive: Strong, warm, rich aromas reminiscent of fig, raisin, walnut, pear, bergamot, rose and clove. Distillate balanced, complex, with a long aftertaste. Dekaraki from Moschato Tyrnavos has a distinct, aromatic character that gives an explosive taste pleasure.

Malagouzia the mansion: Rich, delicate aromas reminiscent of citrus, white flowers such as gardenia, jasmine, honeysuckle as well as notes of honey, lemon, green apple, peach and apricot. Extremely floral distillate, with aromas that enlarge in the mouth and persist in the aftertaste. Dekaraki from Malagouzia highlights the elegant aromas of this exquisite variety.

Roditis the harmonious: Discreet, gentle and clean aromas reminiscent of honey (petimezi), lemon and banana. Dry distillate with a round, full and soft taste. Dekaraki from the excellent variety Roditis (Fox), stands out for the balance in the aromas of tsipouro.
