Mrs. Pothiti in Schinoussa

Kyra Pothiti Tavern in Schinoussa

At Chora of Schinoussa, is located tavern Kyra Pothiti. Her family Mrs. Pothitis Kovaiou is one of the great ones of Schinouss that, after all, there are not many on the island (others known are Nomikos, Scarlatoi, Economides, Klaoudatoi, Manides etc).

Η Mrs. Pothiti - a beautiful name found on Small Cyclades and in Amorgos -, after raising her five boys (Antonis, Christos, Dimitris, Angelos, Manolis) she created the first restaurant of the family, in 1992 25 years ago. I remember those years, when I went with my son - baby Konstantinos - to the feast of the Virgin Mary on the 15th of August which took place in the only alley of Chora. There, Mrs. Pothiti, at the end of the road, served for years with care and passion dishes with local products from their orchard, farm and boat. Do not imagine that the menu had many things, few but good. A fresh green salad with fried goat cheese, the braised local goat, goat stuffed with rice and herbs, the scorpion with spaghetti, octopuses.

The years have passed, the three sons got the job, while Dimitris became the best stone on the island, and Manolis one of the two big producers of local fava (they call it katsuni in Schinoussa).

Mrs. Pothitis's sons go one step further by transferring to Athens their experience and love for the local cuisine of the Cyclades, creating in 2010 the most successful Balcony in the Cyclades, a restaurant with Cycladic flavors in Kareas (after another project in 2005 in Ilioupoli).

Somewhere here Triantaphyllia enters history Filitsa Karamanli, originally from Asia Minor, who arrived on the island in 2005 and fell in love with it.

It took 5 years until this love ended with the marriage with her eldest son Mrs. Pothitis, Antonis. Husky. Smiling with beautiful eyes and a good hand in cooking, she was the one who turned the local flavors into the most creative and the result in both shops was explosive. For four years now, Filitsa - where on the island became Filio - cooks in the summer in Schinoussa dishes that you do not find easily in the Cyclades, even in gourmet restaurants!

Mrs. Pothiti deals with sweets, baked raki, cheeses, while Filio serves tart made of rope fava, caramelized octopus with local fava, cheesecake with local cheeses and even local beef or fish tartare!

No we are not playing!
