Beka Farm

Buffalo milk products

Η Bekaa farm in Sindos Thessaloniki is the first unit to present a complete range of products from Buffalo milk.

Coming from a livestock family, with a history of five generations in livestock, o Giannis Bekas After studying at the American School of Agriculture in Thessaloniki, TEI of Animal Production, Larissa, created in 2006 a vertical unit, which uses buffalo milk from farmers in eastern and central Macedonia, to make high quality and unique flavored products such as yogurt, butter, cream, airani, kefir, white cheese, cream and kazan dip and from spring ice cream and frozen yogurt.

In the company's facilities, which are spread over an area of 1.500 sq.m. in the area of Sindos, its products are produced and all those quality controls that guarantee their quality are carried out daily.

We there, among other things, watched its production cauldron dip, we were impressed by the way it was made but also by its taste and we learned the history of its history.

The 1994 ο Giannis Bekas creates a standard livestock unit and then the 2005 goes into processing creating in Sindos a vertical unit for the production of buffalo dairy products. At first it produces milk, cheese and butter but slowly adds other products.

The Beka family was the first to learn about the Athens market buffalo dairy products, while today it sells its products throughout Greece in small quantities and in selected locations (including Sklavenitis, Vasilopoulos delicatessen, Mediterranean Food Grocery) while sales are made abroad in Greek delicatessen stores in Belgium, France, the Netherlands and Cyprus.

As Giannis Bekas told us, the demand for "Buffalo" products is constantly increasing, however, production is limited by the lack of raw material. There are 3.000 officially registered buffaloes throughout Greece, 80% of which are in Kerkini. The Beka family processes about 500 kilos of milk a day, supplied from Kerkini. John spoke to us about buffalo milk:

"Buffalo milk has beneficial effects on the human body, especially in those who have problems with allergies, psoriasis, eczema or lactose intolerance. Fresh milk is especially recommended as a food for thin and sick people.

It's made of absolutely healthy because water buffalo grow up in ideal living conditions, on the slopes of Mount Beles, on the banks of the river Strymon and Lake Kerkini, grazing freely in the green landscape without the need for feed or antibiotics, while grass, clover and straw are the largest part of it. . ”

The buffalo milk of the Beka family is particularly rich in nutrients. It contains 58% more calcium and 40% more protein than cow's and goat's milk. It is also a rich source of iron, phosphorus, vitamin A and natural antioxidants.

I first met and admired them water buffalo, then I ate cauldron dip and buffalo milk ice cream and I went crazy, finally I met her Beka family, Giannis and Lela and I was impressed by their housekeeping and the exemplary work they did, highlighting and renewing a forgotten traditional product.
