Ktima Michailidis

In its newest wineries Drama is also Ktima Michailidis, created by Iordani Michailidis, In Saint Athanasios near the ancient Philippi, where the archeological findings testify to the cultivation of the vine but also the use of a wine press since the Hellenistic times.

In 1992 the Michailidis family started the installation of a privately owned vineyard with the planting of 8 acres while today the total area exceeds 130 acres.

Iordanis Michailidis  is a young viticulturist. "Since I was 16, I have been involved in my grandfather's small vineyard and my dream was to make my own bottled wine," Jordanis told us during a tour of his small winery where we tasted his wines.

The line Red Gate by Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah and Gabernet Franc, on Rose Gate by Syrah 100% and Gate White from Assyrtiko, Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay.

After the "Gate", we tried it "Key", with Malagouzia 100% and a new light-colored semi-dry rose with the name Queen from the varieties Syrah and Gewurztraminer, which was released on the market in January 2016. At the same time after registering the name "Anointing", is preparing working on Assyrtiko and Mavrotragano, to release two more premium labels in the coming years.

The winery at Ktima Michailidis currently produces 45.000 bottles per year, of which 25% is exported to Germany and Sweden. Jordan's goal is to produce quality wine - even if with small production "you can not easily open doors", as he typically tells us. But you can prove that good wines can be made by very small producers; and that's a great thing.
