Parparousi Winery

LET. Parparousis & Co. OE

H Parparousi Winery is located in its Bozaitika Patras and is one of the most famous wineries in the Peloponnese.

Son of Saranti Parparousi, a distiller who came in 1922 from Asia Minor and maintained a distillery in Patras, the Thanasis Parparousis He left at the end of 1960 to study at the University of Dijon, the capital of Burgundy, the homeland of red wine (Kourtakis and Metaxas had previously studied there). Returning to Patras, Thanasis Parparousis in 1974 married her Vasso Maratou, originally from Kefalonia, and create their new winery on his wife's paternal estate.

For his time it was a pioneering step with the most advanced in the field of technology. It had air-conditioned rooms, constant temperature, nitrogen in the tanks - words unknown to many in Greece at the time.

"At some point we reached the decade to produce 600.000 liters. In the 1990s we changed our philosophy, limiting our production to 100.000 bottles with the primary goal of highlighting and promoting Greek varieties, whose dynamics allow them to be worthily included in the global wine palette. Besides, most of our wines are directed abroad. "For decades now, many of our wines have been participating in international competitions, winning important distinctions."

I was lucky enough to meet Mr. Thanasis with his two daughters Erifili and Demeter - the successor status - on their estate.

An estate of 15 acres - now besieged by the mild residential development of the suburb of Patras - that when you cross its entrance you think you are entering a cinematic setting. Tuscan landscape manicured gardens, but without elaboration, tall eucalyptus trees, cacti, fruit trees. We sat under an old plane tree. The peacocks passed by us, inflating their chests and spreading their winged tails to pique our interest. Bonuel in the ninth. We absorbed in the discussion, because the hosts were at the height of their environment. A family of former morality, low tones and high yield. The natural kindness, the humility, the moderation, the excess knowledge, the passion for their work.

We tried them most important tags their:

  • "Gifts of Dionysus", White wine, 100% Sideritis variety,
  • "Petit Fleur", Dry red wine, 100% iron,
  • "Drosallis", White wine, Assyrtiko 100%,
  • "Taos", Red aged 24 days in French barrels, Mavrodafni 100%
  • "Mavrodafni Patron", Natural sweet wine, Mavrodafni 100% with the addition of good distillate of wine production and three years of aging in barrels.
  • "Oinar", Dry red wine, local Peloponnesian, Agiorgitiko-Mavrodafni.

The acquaintance with the Parparousi family was a holistic pleasure, a unique gift. Great wines, rare People and a Human environment. With alpha capital. May they all be well!
