Although only an hour and a half away from Athens, with beautiful archeological sites, with 35 wineries - the most visited -, vineyards with 22 thousand acres of Agiorgitiko, with a landscape of calm Mediterranean charm, Nemea remains a terra incognita for most travelers of the "Mythical Peloponnese".

The tavern of Sofos based on his decade 1950 when Mrs. Athena - grandmother of George the Wise - maintained her wine kitchen and at noon fed the civil servants, the bankers, the teachers and some passers-by. Then the tavern passed to her daughter Maria and in 2006 it was completely taken over by George, when it was completely renovated.

The aesthetics of the store have been modernized, the old tried and tested specialties - (such as the noodles with rooster, the lamb with the aubergines or the dolmadas with the vine leaves) accompany new dishes, such as xinomyzithra on crust sheet with sweet sour sorghum or sorrel sauce in the hull.

After years of complaints from all winemakers and visitors to Nemea, there is finally a restaurant that in addition to good food to serve bottled wine and even have a wine list with Agiorgitika wines that would be envied by the best restaurant in Athens.

George's dreams do not stop here. His next immediate goal is to make a large basement, so that his customers can find wines from all the producers and all the years, while above the tavern to build a hostel with Greek breakfast - to my great pleasure.
