Mitravela Winery

The Mitravela winery is the oldest winery in Nemea having more than a century of history. In the property of the family, and specifically of the aunt Mitravelena, there are registered plots of vineyards of 2,5 acres in the then Agios Georgios, now Nemea in documents of registration of National estates of the Kapodistrias government of October 10, 1828.

Later the 3 Mitravela brothers establish the winery in the center of the city in 1913, and the family at the end of the 20th century owns about 100 acres of privately owned vineyards in different areas of the vineyard of Nemea. At the same time, there are the wineries of Papaioannou, Liakos, Zafeiris, the Cooperative and Mitravelas that supply wine to the large wineries GENKA, Tsantali, Achaia Klaus, Boutari, Hatzimichalis.

The Mitravela winery took over in 2003 Konstantinos Mitravelas, after his studies in Business Administration, and continues the long course of the family with his own experience in viticulture and with modernized oenological techniques and equipment.

In addition to the thousand tons of bulk wine produced by the winery, Konstantinos creates his first wine, the pioneering then "Red on Black", The first Nemea tank ever released in the Greek market, in 2.000 bottles.

At the same time it creates the “Mitravela Estate”From vineyards over 40 years with 6-month aging in French oak barrels.

Later the collection is enriched with a white wine in "White on Gray", From 100% Moschofilero grapes of the PDO Mantineia zone and from the fresh"Mitravelas RoséAgiorgitiko with minimal extraction.

An ultra premium wine, the “Old Vineyards”From 2 very old vineyards (over 55 years old) will be a landmark wine and will complete the collection.

The Mitravela Estate specializes in Nemea (#PureNemea), therefore focuses on cultivating and vinifying the Agiorgitiko variety, aiming to show all its possible manifestations.

The must for the production of its wines comes from the privately owned vineyards, located around the area of Nemea, covering an area of 80 acres, by cooperating winegrowers with long-term contracts in which the acre yields are minimized, in order to maximize the quality, and finally 300 small growers.

Konstantinos wines have been distinguished in recognized tastings and international competitions, while the winery, apart from the Greek market, also has export activity in the United States, England, Australia, the Netherlands, Belgium, Cyprus, Germany, etc. and is constantly expanding. The winery's facilities are not officially visitable, of course an investment plan for the renovation and construction of a state-of-the-art winery is in the immediate plans of the estate with an upcoming government funding program.

The brand new family Winery will probably be the only visitable winery in the city of Nemea, and in addition to the modern facilities, it will use the old concrete tanks, no longer for storing wine, but for turning them into an exhibition space.
