The 5F - Makis

Makis Tavern (The Five Fi)

At Ivy, the relatively unknown but beautiful picturesque and with dense vegetation of chestnut and plane trees village Pelion, at a distance of 51 km from Volos, is one of the most popular taverns of the mountain of Centaurs, the 5F, better known as Makis tavern.

The village near the Ski Center, according to the historian G. Kordatos, got its name from the paraphrase of the word gold because there used to be a gold vein used there.

Leaving your car in the parking lot in the emba of the village and a few steps before you reach the main square with the big plane trees and the church of Agia Marina, -a three-aisled basilica that was renovated according to the inscription in 1747 and has been declared a historic monument-, you will meet in your right hand in one elevated terrace, a large bed from which hang impressive bunches of grapes. How many and how many times passers-by do not stop photographing her, while some daredevils do not go up to convince themselves that the grapes are real.

Although the tavern 5Φ does not have the view of the square, where there are two other taverns, it is the one that has written and is writing history. THE Makis is a person who will take your order, will guide you gastronomically and will generally tell you the stories about flavors and people of the place.

«The shop was opened by my grandfather Nikos Kasidis, came here with the Asia Minor catastrophe and at its opening was a cafe, grocery store, grocery store. The 1959 became a small tavern, which I later expanded and took its current form.

The crisis and the restriction of the movement of the Greeks had its good points. For reasons of economy we had to revive our long-abandoned estates and plant potatoes - local breed - and all kinds of vegetables.»

Inside the store the Mrs. Vasso She and her mother cleaned the boiled chestnuts and baked the buns kneaded by her hands, which warmly welcomed the customers. Then he made a demonstration of cooking "beef with chestnuts".

For cooking, tavern 5Φ uses its wood oven and so the cooked everything comes out of there delicious.
