Ouzo Skotadis

Immediately after the Occupation, around 1945-46, on its shores Aegina, at the point where the boats loaded the Aeginian jugs to travel to Piraeus, there were cafes. One of them - the cafe of Ioannis Alifantis - opened at dawn and made fish soup for the fishermen who left before dawn and then coffee for those who returned in the morning.

The cafe, after dark, was named after his grandfather Darkness. In 1972 0 Stelios Lykouris marries the daughter of Mr.Giannis Skotadis and 1980 takes over the store. The changes begin, fufu with octopus and other delicacies for lunch and ouzo-tavern in the evening. His location in the port, next to the market and in front of the beach of Aegina - overlooking the boats and the sailing boats - is privileged and so Stelios with his sociability builds a shop with a fanatical clientele.

In 2002, the third generation entered the store. The grandson George Lykouris, in turn renewed the tavern and turned it into an extremely tasteful, honest in terms of value for money, restaurant.

The food of "Ouzeri Skotadis" classic island flavors with some refreshing notes here too. E.g. the classic boiled octopus, with Florin pepper. The marinated anchovies, beautifully marinated, the salads very nice, filling with a vegetable feast, white cheeses sprinkled with Aeginian pistachio. Of the main ones, I loved the well-fortified barley with crayfish and the pasta with fresh shrimp and tomato. Its cocoons (local small fish that are red in color and taste like the tongue) are amazing and were unfortunately just finished.

Mr. Stelios reassured me:

"Do not worry… next time my phone. I will put you in the kitchen to see how I cook them in the pan with butter and they become Turkish delight ".
