Ο Lefteris Glinavos is one of the most important personalities of Greek wine. He studied oenology and viticulture in Bordeaux in the 1970s and became one of the first oenologists active in the field of winemaking in Greece. In addition to his professional activity with winery of in Zitsa of Epirus, had a rich socio-political activity having been president of the Panhellenic Association of Oenologists in 1984 - with a significant contribution to the creation of the department of oenology and beverage technology - but also a member of Pasok and later mayor of Ioannina.

The history of the winery of Lefteris Glinavos begins in 1978 with its foundation Glinavos Estate in the PDO Viticulture Zone of Zitsa, Ioannina. In 1980, utilizing the new technologies of the time, the traditional rosé semi-sparkling wine is created "Mrs. Frosini"And the white dry"Balthazar-Zitsa".

In 1990 his son comes to business, Thomas Glinavos, with a degree in Economics from Stockholm University, launching the first major investment with an emphasis on mechanical modernization and the creation of new, visitable building sites.

From this time on Glinavos Estate begins to record the first successes, winning important awards in domestic and international competitions.

In 2004 a modern one is founded distillery for the production of continental tsipouro (without anise) and two types of double distillation are introduced on the market: the “Classic" and "Aged”(Aging in oak barrels for two years).

In 2009 Ktima Glinavos inaugurates a large production unit of sparkling and semi-sparkling wines in order to continue the tradition of the area of ​​Zitsa.

Ο vineyard of the estate has an area of ​​about 145 acres where the native red varieties "Vlachiko", "Bekari" and the white "Debina" are cultivated without missing other varieties such as: "Malagouzia", ​​"Cabernet Sauvignon" and "Merlot" of Epirus, the "Traminer" and the "Sauvignon Blanc".

Protagonist of all varieties h PDO Debina, which thanks to the delicate aromas -with their main feature the feeling of fresh apple- the high natural acidity and the low alolic degree creates extremely sparkling or semi-sparkling wines.

The Glinavos winery dominates the vineyard, is visitable and in its impressive cellars one can see the 400 French barrels and of course make the relevant tastings.
