Cistern in Kapesovo

The Kapesovo is one of its most beautiful and lesser known villages Central Zagori. Descending the beautiful Kapesovite cobbled streets, between the stone houses with the beautiful slate roofs, breathing the smell of the smoky fireplaces, you immediately discover the hidden charm of the village.

Many in the village had and still have ancient small names such as Plato, Clearchus, Thucydides, which were given to children from the 19th century on the one hand because its inhabitants - well-traveled and wealthy merchants - were educated with classical education, on the other because they wanted to stimulate the mindset and Greekness of the then Turkish-occupied region.

Ο Thucydides Papageorgiou He was a philologist in Giannina, but he never left his village, the Kapesovo. When his two daughters grew up, the Elli and Gianna, decided to settle and live in Kapesovo engaged in agritourism.

In 1996 they bought an old house to become a guest house. And in 1998 the Papageorgiou family opened the Sterna, the cafe-confectionery, the most fairytale shop of Pindos. Tosodouli, in the center of the village, in the place that was the shelter of a cistern of 1848 that shines illuminated in the center of the shop. It is a shop full of sweets, wines, jars, colorful necklaces, shiny jewelry, toys, decorations in a romantic style, lights and wonderful smells, like a fairy cave in Kapesovo!

Everything sold in Sterna is made by the family. They collect the gifts of the forest (mushrooms, salepi, wild strawberries, radishes, wild cabbage for pie, skulls, cedar apples, apple trees, sour apples and so much more), the herbs they will dry, their small agricultural production, the cakes ( pistachio, revani, walnut pie, itchli, baklavades, sandakli, raisin), the famous desserts of the spoon (helmets, quinces, sour cherries, raspberries, cherries, citrus fruits), the jams, the liqueurs (as orange-brown even)!

Winter summer the two girls, the Gianna -professional chef- who mainly supervises the cooking and the Elli -curator of works of art- who makes jewelry, are waiting for us for a tour of their magical world.
