Zagori Cheese Factory

At Continent, on the border of the Municipalities of Pogoni and Zagori is located the Zagori Cheese Factory, a new modern business of traditional dairy products. Founders of two friends o Christos Boutsikos and Antonis Doumas, who decided in 2006 to engage in the production of cheese products.
Responsible mind o Apostolos Boutsikos, an old cheesemaker and father of Christos, who supports them and contributes with his many years of experience and know-how.

Maintaining constant collaborations with milk producers and "pressing" on the old recipes of the family, they now produce in a completely modernized unit sheep, cow and drained yoghurt, PDO galotyri and slice, dairy butter and Basil cheese - a creamy goat and sheep cheese based on their own, unique recipe.

The packages of their cheeses and especially the galotyri which is kamari, the most characteristic cheese of Epirus - a creamy cheese that is spread and has a pleasant sour taste -, are either family and intended for households, or large for professional use in stores restaurants or hotels.
The two young entrepreneurs started with perseverance and thirst to learn the secrets of milk and cheese, and today they have managed to place their products in Greece in large supermarket chains, grocery stores and restaurants in Athens and Epirus, while in Europe are the exclusive suppliers of feta and yogurt to NATO supplying the respective supermarkets.

A great moment in their course was the award of the Dairy from the Awards of the magazine Gastronomou of Kathimerini, of such an important institution that since 2008, awards every year producers, processors or traders of excellent food products. The "Alexandros Giotis" Quality Award -in the memory of the late Epirus journalist- was awarded to Christos Boutsikos by Georgios Oikonomou, President of the Pan-Epirus Confederation of Greece.
