E. Averoff Gallery

Politician, writer and soul of today's "miracle of Metsovo", o Evangelos Averof-Tositsas (1910-1990), in addition to the dozens of works he did in his hometown, he created a Gallery, which bears his name and to which he donated both the building and the works of his collection, which is considered one of the most complete of the 19th century. century.

Η E. Averoff Gallery, inaugurated in 1988, includes 200 works by important Greek painters of the 19th and 20th centuries.

Here the visitor can admire representative works of all our great creators of the last two centuries such as Lytra, Gyzi, Volanaki, Prosalenti, Altamoura, Hatzi, Lembesi, Iakovidi, Savvidi, Roilou, Partheni, Malea, Oikonomou, Gerali, Germeni, Byzantiou, Kontioulou Elkokouki, Kontokouli creators such as Costa Malamou, Botsoglou, Paniara, Paris Preka, Soroga, Fasianou. Finally, the exhibition was recently enriched with photographs by the great Greek rural photographer Costas Balafas.

It is worth noting that among the hundreds of works in the collection are some of them most important paintings of Greek Painting, such as "The burning of the Turkish flagship by Kanaris" by N. Lytras, "The first steps" by G. Iakovidis and "Man who eats watermelon" by P. Pantazis.

In 1994, the building facilities were expanded and the New Wing of the Gallery was opened. New exhibition spaces were created and the collection was significantly enriched. The building was modernized and acquired additional auxiliary spaces.

The library, the screening room, the open-air cafe and the shop with the publications of the Gallery and the other types of gifts were created. The special area of ​​the children's workshop and the atrium for the summer events and exhibitions were formed.
