Hidden Port

Tavern The Hidden Port - Captain Andreas

Hidden - literally - in a small alley, about two hundred meters behind the beach of Hydra, is the Hidden Port a tavern that should definitely be explored by anyone who wants to be called "wanted" when leaving Hydra!

The Hidden Port is housed in a house with a traditional aqueduct, with a lemon tree in the middle standing tufted despite being 85 years old, surrounded by colorful flowers and geraniums and a harvested arbor with bunches of grapes hanging from above, confusing foreign tourists who think fake decor!

Here was the house of Barba Dimas, who had 4 children. One of them, Andreas, was a sailor and 1986, after retiring, opened this store and gave it the name he wanted: Hidden Port.

It had little food at the beginning, mainly gathered by the locals (who said let's go "to Captain Andreas") and those who knew the swallows of Hydra. With good cooked food, fresh fish, cheap prices, it quickly became a hangout. In 1992 he gets it Dimitris Voulgaris, son of Captain Andreas and grandson of Barba Dimas, and is evolving. Delicious fresh fish, grilled of the hour, good snacks, all made with taste, cooked with authentic homemade recipes, local squid - delicious -, combined with the warm and unpretentious friendly service, make it an undoubted choice of enjoyment.

There are no words for fish… always fresh! In fact, if you are lucky and it has scorpion fish soup, you will lick your fingers! Besides, Dimitris and his nephew Andreas, who greet you very kindly, fish themselves. And George, who always serves with a smile, has been working there since he was 9 years old.

A beautiful, family shop, with very affordable prices, away from the crowds of the island, closes every November for the winter and reopens in March (usually on March 25).

Υ.Γ. On the 30th of last March, Captain Andreas 'passed away', sinking in grief his family and all the people of Hydra.
