Ta Traditional Restaurant

"The Traditional", perhaps its best ouzo tavern Hydra, is located one hundred meters from the port of Hydra, on a picturesque paved island, opposite a house that is drowned in wisteria, the home of the old Hydra family Karamitsos, and is definitely worth a visit for many reasons.

Traditional opened in 1997 and in its 25 years of operation it has been identified with the quality of taste, and has gained many fanatical patrons.

Its owners are Panagiotis Kitsos and Matina Gioni, both raised in Athens, got married at an early age and had a prehistory in catering, with their own shops in Athens and Kardamili in Mani.

In 1997 they decided to settle permanently in the hometown of Matina, Hydra, and turned an old commercial store, into a relatively quiet neighborhood, into a successful tavern.

The years have passed, the Traditional wrote its history and today the neighborhood is the top of Hydra, because next to it opened the popular bar Amalour,… and onion and the restaurant Manna, a fact that every night the youth meet around for fun. So sitting on the balcony of the Traditional, elevated by 3 steps, you can enjoy your appetizers and your food, having a go-and-come from the top of the neighborhood.

What stands out in the Traditional is that in the cosmic Hydra insists traditionally presenting appetizers and dishes that represent her Greek cuisine. And although its lobster spaghetti and shrimp spaghetti and barley, well cooked, but do not escape the mainstream of the Greek tourist territory, offer some other dishes that have left history on the island, such as taramosalata in two colors -black black, married with cuttlefish ink-, grilled sardines, hydrated grilled squid, squids with black rice from their ink, delicious fennel pies, the saganaki with the mussels, the octopus cooked in hydraic (in the pan covered with breadcrumbs a little oil and vinegar) or just on the coals.

In Traditional you will find meraklidikos mezes, appetizers and every day different tasty cooked dishes, grilled meats, in portions filling and beautifully presented, and all this not only during the tourist season but from Shrove Monday to the end of November, ie 9 months of joy all year round.

The Traditional of Panagiotis, Matina and their daughter Christiana, -he now takes the baton-, is a standard family tavern which with its popular taste, hospitable mood and the richness and taste of its traditional cuisine is a worthy ambassador of Greek gastronomy.
