Ramona Tavern
Η Ramona is a neighborhood tavern in Kallithea, not very well known, but that constantly surprises you.
In a dark alley, Minoos 11-13 near Demosthenous, at the base of a four-storey apartment building of 1970, the entrance of the store just stands out from a dim lighting, is a souda that if one does not pay attention - and is over 1.90 - will eats his head. The store became better known when in the twenties 1985-2005 it worked, unlike other taverns, as after hours and Ramona was open daily until 7 am.
"Other times other glories", Says the tavern owner who speaks at a stormy pace. "Now the schedule has changed significantly, however we continue the night. We close at night at 2.00 and Friday-Saturday at 5.00 in the morning, on Thursday we also have instruments, we are old now…! During Papathemeli, the police would come and close us early, and we would continue, and people would sit inside and eat with lighted candles. Our customers were not so much the world of nightlife, but the workers at night, who here would drink soup or eat their boiled".
Another surprise is the ordering. In front of you is a long list of foods, detailed with their prices. The first: salads 3,5 euros, appetizers 6.5 and in the main, the highest price 7,5 euros, prices you will not find elsewhere in Athens, Greece. Then, in a notebook where all the dishes are marked, you fill in your preferences with a cross, and so with concise procedures you place the order, while in the meantime you will have the basket with the baked bread and the wine (the red is better than the white).
In the kitchen is Maria's brother, the Dimitris, who works on the grill and his wife Anna in the dishes and pans, while in the hall and the rest Maria commands with the help of her son or niece. From the appetizers We singled out the grilled talagani, the bekri meze, the snails but also the grilled quail, the lamb sweets, the beef negligence, the ribs and the stuffed burger (a dream).
For the end, Maria serves ravani with ice cream.
