Ebola in the Leptopods

Ebolo self-managed cafe

On the north side of the island, 60 km from the city Chios, built between the mountains of Amani and Pelinnaio, are the Thin legs. The village is built on rocky and sloping ground, between two torrents which are poured into the torrent of Galatians.

Their story It is lost in the depths of time and this can be seen from the architecture of the village, the medieval main names (Stamatini, Evangelini and others) as well as the ancient root of the linguistic idiom of the inhabitants and the abundant ruins of the ancient buildings.

A characteristic element of the village is considered the way the houses are built, close enough to each other to form an outer wall. The alleys are very narrow and pass under galleries, the covered ones. The entrance of the roofs in some places is decorated by a well-built, arched entrance (arch). Above the roofs are built houses that had very small windows and some, in fact, the inside houses, did not have at all, for this reason they had a hole in the roof, the ascent, from where they received little light. Apart from the churches, the folklore museum of the village is of interest, which since 2006 houses the rich folklore heritage of the place.

Next to the square known as "Embolo", with the church of Panagia despino is interesting traditional cafe of the village characterized by the fact that it is self-managed and from the fact that there is no coffee shop and the customers are self-service!

The plate inside the Ebola informs us about it:

«Empolos is the hangout of our village

Revival of a traditional non-profit cafe that was founded and organized by the two associations of the village in order to serve our villagers and any passing visitor, hunter, tourist, etc. found in our hospitable place. It works all year round with system of self-service "Self service".

Making and serving goods and cleaning and identifying the space and objects after each use. Its viability is based on the conscience of each of us because as we know the beret died».
