Fish tavern of Passa

At a distance of 16 kilometers northeast of the city Chios, 20 minutes drive is the picturesque village Lagada. Around a beautiful creek - like a fjord - on one side there is a pine grove and on the other side the settlement, with its pier, fishing boats and sailboats that find safe shelter there.

Among the restaurants and taverns located along the beach stands out the oldest fish tavern of the village, the fish tavern of Passa, which for years holds the scepter with traditional seafood delicacies of and fresh fishes her.

Some of the delicacies: whole (octopus ink), married sardines, maridopita, shrimp pie (the excellent dish shown), grilled octopus, very tender squid in the pan, red mullet and large fish.

We met him George Passa a young creative and kind young man, fourth generation who manages the store and told us with humor about his story:

«The great-grandfather who built the store was called Nikolis. Nicholas gave birth to George, George gave birth to Vassilis and Nicholas, Vassilis gave birth to George and Maria, Nicholas gave birth to George and Zannis.

Now, taking the baton from my father, my uncle Nikolas and I are in command, and today the whole shop is practically occupied by two whole families.

Although the store runs from pre-war to a cafe, its official opening is the 1952 and we have written this on the sign of the tavern. My grandfather George, born in 1935, was the one who made the store famous and we owe it to him, but unfortunately he left us. Today we want to be considered one Chian traditional fish tavern and in fact a Lagadousi tavern. For example, in the grilled cheese we have the mastelo the cow's, but we also have the cheese of the shepherd Georgoulis, Lagadousi cheese producer for goat selection!

In winter it is our must fish soup and of course our trademark, the sun-dried octopus. For atherines we have three versions, we fry them plain, with onion and finally as a pie, the Chian atherin pie which is also called begot».

There in Lagada in the northeast of Chios, the fish tavern of Passa, a shop with a history, is in good hands and continues to honor Chian cuisine.
