Tarsanas

The restaurant Tarsanas it is at southern part of Patmos, on the beautiful beach Switch, south of Groikos, where the shipbuilding and repair unit "Patmos Marin" has been installed for several years.

This is a yard against the spirit of the times, where the family Kamitsi designs and manufactures unique wooden boats - speedboats or traditional treadmills - that bear its signature and the guarantee of quality.

It all started when the Lefteris Kamitsis, a furniture maker and carpenter by profession, in 1995 he set up a small workshop for the construction and repair of small wooden boats. In ten years the work expanded and with the help of the children of Peros and Sozos, a state-of-the-art shipyard was created where more than 20 Patmian craftsmen work in winter and summer (the largest company in Patmos) and whose fame embraced all of Greece.

Over time, the needs of the staff and their customers - who when they are on the island spend the day and night in the shipyard to watch the progress of the work of their favorite boats - led to the need to create a dining area.

So, with the exact same passion that they set up their yard and scaffold their boats, they created in 2005 inside the yard, a standard restaurant who named it Tarsana.

Tarsanas in a short time it became one of the most atmospheric hangouts-restaurants of Patmos. In an amazing space, where the tables are set on a deck of a real hull and between a backdrop of traditional wooden boats of all sizes and types, heterogeneous groups - craftsmen and shipowners, "branded" and anonymous, simple craftsmen, intellectuals and artists - they enjoy the feeling that on the one hand they are in the heart of the carnagio, where the most beautiful boat in the Aegean is maintained and repaired, and on the other hand they taste an interesting island cuisine with mainly local ingredients.

Goat from Levetha, local cheeses, fish and seafood from the surrounding seas, vegetables from skate gardens are the raw materials for creating conventional local recipes (cockroach, lemonade and braised goat) but also unexpected dishes (shrimp with shrimp kambila) kandaifi).
