Plaza Coffee

Can it Houston cafe to be its most famous cafe Patmos, but the older cafe of Skala is Coffee Plaza (Plaza Coffee), located a few meters below. And if Houston, due to the age of its owners, now works two or three hours a day, the Plaza has been passed on to new generations and has a present and a future.

The Plaza cafe passed to the Gryllis family in 1920 and they had named it "National", a symbolic name because we do not forget that the Dodecanese were liberated by the Italians after the Second World War (1947).

Grandpa Gryllis was adventurous young and traveled - as 93-year-old Aunt Sofia and one of his grandfather's 8 brothers inform us - and buying the cafe he tied the knot. Then he was succeeded by his son and since 1984 the grandson of Vassilis at the age of only twenty years.

Today, Plaza Kafe works with full machines throughout the tourist season as it has about 50 seats in the central square of Skala. Its beauty is in the winter, when and as the only real coffee.

Of course summer pulls me too, to sit and play it backgammon me in his cool majestic hall.

High ceiling with wooden brown ceilings for ceiling, two beautiful pointed bows from the local brown stone - characteristic of the Patinian architecture - a tasteful wooden fireplace that separates the interior of the cafe from the customers' space, wooden tables with white marble and many old photos from the past create a very warm atmosphere in winter, when the little Now ouzo, maridaki and octopus patrons play their backgammon, make their own bullshit, watch some football on TV and bless God for their luck.
