Hermes - Stylianos Dimarakis SA

The company Hermes - Stylianos Dimarakis is located 2 km near Ermioni and is one of the most dynamic olive oil standardization units in Hermione. Its history begins when the Dimaraki family, Arkades, moved in the 60's to Ermionida, in Thermisia, bought an amphitheater area opposite Hydra, from the family of the captain of the revolution Sachtouris and cultivated olives on these estates. Inside the estate there was a cottage, which became the permanent residence of Stylianos and his family.

The 1970 Father Stylianos builds the Olive Mill inside the estate and the 1983 the standardization unit.

The 1991 the unit is relocated to its current location.

Son of Stylianos the Vangelis Dimarakis - we talked to him and he kindly gave us all the information we asked for - he lived in his father's house until he was 14 years old, close to nature and crops, without electricity and water. "From a young age I remember grafting trees, I was passionate about the olive tree". He studied agronomy by choice, entered agriculture first and then devoted himself to olive and oil.

He undertook the study and coordination of the process of unification of all the producers of Ermionida and the submission of the dossier for its certification PDO Kranidi Oil, in 1993. The approval was given in 1996. The name "Kranidi" is due to the fact that in Skull, the capital of the province, there were most olive mills (35-40 small capacity until the '70s) and the trade was done mainly from there, as the producers sold through the mills and had no direct contact with the markets.

Kranidi oil PDO has a ratio of 80% of the Manaki variety and 20% of the Koroneiki variety.

It is a composition of two varieties of manaki, an indigenous variety, which produces an oil that is very soft in taste and throat and that is particularly suitable for fish and the Koroneiki variety that has an intense and acidic character.

In Ermionida there are three packaging units and about 10 certified oil mills. The producers are over 500 and the production reaches 2.000 tons.

The olives from which the olive oils of the Hermes company are produced come from the paternal lands and from producers from Ermionida.

Its flagship is the brand "Authentic", extra virgin organic olive oil and follows the "Calliston", Extra virgin olive oil.

The average annual production is as follows:

  • Organic oil 40 tons over 80% export
  • Extra virgin 350 tons and more than half export
  • Refined oil 250 for the Greek market
  • Kernel oil 250 tons

The company Hermes is a worthy ambassador of Ermionida but also of our country in foreign markets as about 60% of its production - with an upward trend - is exported.
