Ganosis in Ermioni

Ganosis Restaurant

The Ganosis restaurant, its oldest restaurant Hermione, and one of the most historic in the Peloponnese is located in the port of Ermioni and operates from 1918. A century of Greek traditional cuisine and at the same time serving tens of thousands of visitors is celebrated by Joseph Ganosis who is at the helm, as a representative of the 3rd generation of owners. So nowadays, the two-storey mansion that houses the restaurant is decorated with impressive anniversary posters that remind of the event: "One family, one century, one tradition", "one family, one century, one tradition".

The history of the restaurant begins in 1900 when the grandfather George Ganosis as a teenager comes from Evia to Ermioni to make his fortune. In time he becomes a cook and his big moment is -as it is said- when he cooks for Eleftherios Venizelos!

He built the current tavern in 1918 and at the same time the first hotel in the city which accommodates merchants, visitors, civil servants while at the same time the tavern operates as an agency, hangout, station (do not forget that Ermionida has since had easier communication - via steam connection - with Piraeus, rather than with the rest of Argolis), a cafe, an amusement park and a polling station. Kyr-Giorgos cooks his own appetizers and recipes, makes his own wine and beer and does not hesitate to invite to the store big names of rebetiko (Vamvakaris, Papaioannou, Mitsakis) to entertain friends and visitors.

The 1949 Tassos takes over with his son Zoe. And in a few years, the seasons come when Tourism takes its first steps (mainly holiday). The first steamers of the time, Neraida, Kamelia, Pindos, Kyknos, Saronis, Portokalis Ilios connect the port of the capital with Poros, Hydra, Spetses and of course Ermioni where its visitors found in the tavern of the family Ganosos rich, , spaghetti, octopus stew, moussaka and for dessert walnut pie.

The 1970 The tavern is taken over by George from the third generation, while today it is managed by his brother Joseph Ganosis.

Of course the old years are over and the traditional tavern has evolved into a local restaurant - housed mainly in the open air on a wooden deck, with sunroofs and windbreaks - which steals the impressions in winter and summer. Beautiful curtains, seat covers, decoration all in the pen.

The family meals have been enriched with Mediterranean flavors and various gourmet dishes, lobster spaghetti, but also with pizzas - baked in the special wood oven - and where the elite vacationers of the area and ordinary visitors of the city can find the food of their choice and of course the traditional dessert of walnut pie.
