Kontovraki Estate

The Kontovraki Estate is located in the middle of a beautiful vineyard, in the area of ​​Vresteza (Komini) just outside Kranidi. It has an area of ​​about 100 acres, at an altitude of 250 to 300 meters with northeast orientation.

Ο Giannis Kontovrakis, three generations of viticulturist from an old family of Kranidiotes continues the tradition cultivating and maintaining the rare and perhaps unique for Greece variety Rokaniaris as well as the also remarkable Slave. A man with artistic concerns (musician), he masterfully curated his vineyard. Having worked in the first years of his life as a plumber, he reorganized his vineyard into a linear development and with an excellent irrigation system, created a landscape of unique beauty.

The varieties it hosts are basically Rokaniaris and Sklavos and to a lesser extent Roditis, Savvatiano, Moschofilero Agiorgitiko, Xinomavro and Cabernet Sauvignon. The Kontovraki Estate has an acreage yield of 800 kilos for Rokaniaris and about 1200 kilos for Sklavos.

Rokaniaris is a variety that can be found only in Kranidi. It probably got its name from the somewhat hard and crunchy grape root that gives the mouth the feeling of "gnawing". Rare variety of Argolida, gives wine with light yellow-green color, special complex aroma, pleasant and cool taste, exuberant aftertaste. Here in the same area next to the vineyards was created a small but with modern means winery, storage and bottling area.

Very interesting is the tasting room, a wooden octagonal construction, reminiscent of the hunting stands of French farms, with a prominent glass and from where one can admire the vineyard and in the background its relief landscape Hermione.

With the same passion of his grandfather and his father - who also maintained a tavern in Kranidi -, Giannis and his niece Nadia Kotsaki, continue the tradition of the family, welcoming their visitors, with wine tastings and many stories about the place and its cultures.
