Myrtle

Η Myrtos beach or simply Myrtle is a beach on its Northwest side Of Kefalonia. It is considered the most famous beach of the island and one of the main sights of, since in recent years it gathers great tourist interest. It is located in the Municipality of Pylareon, 30 km north of Argostoli. The nearest village is Divarata, 2,5 km south of the beach. The beach is surrounded by cliffs and has a length of about 800 meters and its width ranges up to 60 meters, while at one end there is a small cave. The beach, to be precise, is not sand but fine white pebbles, which are also responsible for the turquoise color of the sea.

The beach has been awarded a blue flag and has been featured many times as the best beach in Greece and one of the most impressive in Europe.

Myrtos has the peculiarity due to its size to have been divided on the organized beach, with a canteen, umbrellas, sunbeds and a lifeguard and on the other the free one. The beach is dangerous because as an open bay, big waves appear during bad weather, and many swimmers are in danger. It is organized on the beach every August Cultural Summer, a music festival of the Municipality of Pylarea.
Myrtos, world-renowned, award-winning, fully meets the expectations of his visitors - some come to Kefalonia just to see him up close…

The landscape in Myrtos is unique, and the surprise starts from the point where you will first see the beach from above, as lush vegetation, wild rocks and cliffs, surround a huge white sandy beach with very fine white pebbles.

There are no trees on the beach to provide shade, so it is good to come prepared.

The sunset in Myrtos will be unforgettable: as the beach "looks" west, the sun sinks golden in the blue sea… Choose to come here as early as you can - the calm and serenity of the morning, when there is absolute quiet, gives the Myrtle special beauty.

As you come by road, suddenly, the landscape opens and visitors see Myrtos from above: a unique landscape that there is no way you can not stop to photograph from somewhere on the downhill route.
