Sklavos Wines in Lixouri (Sclavos Wines)

The Sklavos Winery is located in Lixouri and specializes in local varieties, while it has a clear inclination towards imaginative blends giving original names to their labels. THE Evryviadis (or Vladis) Slave is, among other things, its pioneer biodynamic culture in Kefalonia, but also in Greece in general.

From the winery's website we learn that the Sklavos family, originally from Livathos Tomatoes, migrated to Odessa, Russia, and around 1860 we find the great-grandfather Evriviadis Sklavos managing a large Vinaria, owned by the family.

In 1919, grandfather Evryviadis returned to Kefalonia, where he planted a vineyard on the privately owned estate in the area. Millet of Paliki.

In 1995, two generations later, the grandson Evryviadis, under the supervision of Spyros' father, remodels the old vineyard located within the cultivation zone of Mavrodafni, Kefalonia.

The recent earthquake of 2014 caused great damage. Witness the shocking photos, where we see the wine tanks have fallen on top of each other like dominoes, crumpled and all the contents were lost. Fortunately, this disaster brought him in collaboration with the businessman X. Zisimato from New York, as in parallel with the fact that a large investment in the NSRF was approved, they contributed to the spectacle we encountered when we were in his unit. An impressive construction site in its final phase, where the old winery joins the new one.

"Our ultimate goal in the next 5 years is to reach 120.000 bottles out of the 80.000 we will make this year, of which 70% are exported a little, in several countries with Japan first and foremost!", Evangelia, the young oenologist of the estate, informed us.

The autonomous vineyard of the Sklavos estate is cultivated according to the principles of the homodynamic method and for fifteen years is in full biological stage and is controlled by the auditing body of DIO.

The production at the Sklavos Winery is characterized by small acreage yields, about 400 kg per acre, the cup-shaped configuration and the age of the stems.

We tried everything wines, but I singled out the white Eufranor, a very aromatic blend from Moschatella and the local Vostilidi, the rosé Alchemiko from Mavrodafni Kefalonia, the red dry wine of Orgia from Mavrodafni Kefalonia aged in oak barrels aged white o the dry Sas Robola (PDO) and the Synod, a red dry wine aged in oak barrels from the varieties Mavrodafni and Vostilithi.
