Orealios Gi - Producers of Robolas Kefallinia

Ο Robola Cooperative was founded in 1982, is located on the plateau of Omala at an altitude of 700 meters, 15 kilometers northeast of Argostoli and completed the winery in 1987. The newest Greek viticultural cooperative consisting of 300 members receives 80% of Robolas from the Designation of Origin zone.

The beautiful winery of the cooperative has borrowed architectural elements from the monastery of Agios Gerasimos, located right next to it, in the center of the plateau of the community of Omala Kefallinia. It is adapted to the production of mainly white wines and carries the heavy load of Robola which is one of the undisputed "diamonds" of the Greek vineyard.

Daily, the Robola Producers Cooperative of Kefallinia Gains the trust and recognition of the consumer public, but also of the experts, in the field of winemaking and wine marketing, offering excellent wines at affordable prices. The steep slopes around the plateau, the altitude and the poor, gravelly and limestone soils, combine in an ideal way characteristics that give freshness, finesse and wonderful balance to the wines of the island. Within the "robola zone" 2.000 acres are cultivated with indigenous varieties, such as Vostilidi, Moschato, Mavrodafni, Zakynthos and mainly Robola.

2005 o Robola Producers Cooperative of Kefallinia completely renewed the mechanical equipment of its winery, with an area of 2.400 sq.m. and installed a biological treatment plant for its waste management, now a state-of-the-art winery.

In bottled wine, the cooperative produces 80.000 bottles Robola, 50.000 bottles Saint Gerasimos (which is also the top label), 10.000 bottles Organic Robola and another 10.000 bottles on Aged Robola.

We spoke with the President of the Cooperative Panagi Galiatsato, but also with the production manager Konstantinos Bazigos. We are glad that the Cooperative belongs to the few in the country who do not owe money to the Banks, the State and the insurance organizations, have good relations with the producers and finally, the wines are improving day by day and bring out the white-faced diva of the country's white wines , the unsurpassed Robola.

The most important wines of the Robola Cooperative are:

  • San Gerassimo Robola, with complex aromas of orange and yellow fruit. Mouth rich, with sweetness and satisfactory acidity.

  • Robola Cellar Selection 2011. Aromas of citrus and barrel. Mouth rich with sweetness and noticeable acidity that gives it balance.

By its new name "OREALIOS GI", inspired by the rare terroir and the natural landscape of unparalleled beauty, the Cooperative at the end of 2010 launches a new era of activities and oenological practices that respect the local tradition and at the same time raise the bar of wine art!
