Voskopoula Confectionery

Voskopoula Confectionery - Dionysis Kappatos

On its cobbled sidewalk market of Argostoli, is located at Voskopoula Confectionery of the Kappatos family, which is famous for its creations (nougat, nougat, macaroons, crayons, coconuts, quince paste, etc.), which for a century sweeten the inhabitants of the island and at the same time function as worthy ambassadors of Kefalonian gastronomy to its visitors.

At the helm of the historic family craft nowadays is the Dionysis Kappatos, a famous confectioner, who, in addition to keeping the secrets of his traditional art, is distinguished for his innovative thinking and commercial initiatives. He participates in trade fairs (national and international), appears on television, pioneers in his digital image with an excellent website while the packaging of his products is of rare beauty.

«The figures of our new packages are inspired by the Italian art of the famous Comentia del Arte. This was the way to highlight the Italian culture and origin of our products and their connection to our homeland. Her actors Commedia dell'arte They were called craftsmen because they transformed a work on stage with their movements, just as the craftsmen of Voskopoula do, who transform simple raw materials, such as sugar, almonds, sesame seeds, milk, flour, fresh fruit, in unique gastronomic works of art.

Our figures follow the color of the fruit or the shade of each sweet, while their special design aims at friendliness for our little friends. Pantalone, Colombina, Capitano, Dottore, Harlequin, Pierrot in the service of the mandola, the confetti, the nougat, the pastel, the mandola with honey…»

After we took lessons for the formation of the corporate identity from the traditional confectioner, and while he was working in the cauldron and supplying it with sugar, Dionysis Kappatos told us two stories about the history of his craft:

«Our story begins in 1907 when the first generation of our family, led by Panagis Kappatos, starts the trade of the excess milk of the household, transporting it with special containers from Dilinata, its place of residence, to Argostoli.

The 1910 now having acquired a permanent seat in Argostoli, Kappatou family establishes the first patisserie in Cephalonia, "Voskopoula".

From a dairy in the beginning, the company grows and is established in the heart of the city, expanding the range of its sweets and including in it the traditional sweets of our place.

One generation succeeds the other and hopefully we reach today, with the fourth generation at the helm.»

Voskopoula is an admirable example of creative collaboration of innovation with tradition, but also of the greatness of the Kefalonian demon…!
