Charitatos Estate

The Charitatos Estate in Kefalonia it is, above all, an estate with everything! One hundred and twenty acres of land, of which 40 are vineyards, a forest with cypresses, and below crops with walnuts, pistachios, cherries, almond trees, blackberries, orchards, flower beds, a lake with ducks and river fish.

Old vineyards but also many new ones in place of old ones, ducks, chickens, sheep, many dogs each with its own name! But most of all, it is an estate with stories and memories, with sounds from chants, feasts and celebrations.

And of course in the center of the estate the “mansion farmhouse”Of the historical family of the nobles of Charita, whose history goes back to the 15th century.

A house that resists earthquakes, always with minimal accidents that do not interrupt his daily life (cooking, reading in the big library, visiting friends).

A fairytale farm, with flat pebbles for terraces, outdoor seating, ovens, family church, special terrace where the mistress received the vegetables from the orchards every day and sorted them, which ones will go from here and which ones from there, a place for children , a wooden house built on a tree.

A purely family affair that very recently found its way to wine on a commercial basis, producing from 2012 onwards about 10-20.000 bottles from 40 privately owned acres. Currently only produced Mavrodafni (sec) and the Moschato of Kefalonia, but also the Robola puts strong candidacy for the future.

The host Constantine Charitatos after a life in Italy, he returned to Kefalonia, is mainly the one who deals with the estate and welcomed us to guide us. A philosopher, but also with the Kefalonian elegy, he toured us among the organic vineyards, the gardens, the yards where young and old sleep in tents or sleeping bags in summer, but also where modern receptions and celebrations take place.

All in an environment without anything sophisticated or excessive.
