Byzantino Boutique Hotel Monemvasia

The Byzantino Boutique Hotel inside Κάστρο of Monemvasia offers the possibility for the visitor to experience an unforgettable escape from everyday life in the atmosphere and the glamor of a medieval castle with modern facilities and amenities.

The Byzantino Hotel consists of independent historic buildings with rooms and apartments completely renovated internally, with special care and absolute respect for their historicity and architectural identity.

All rooms have tasteful classic furnishings with antique furniture, fine décor and elegant paintings. They have wooden ceilings with beams, wooden floors, expensive fabrics, linen and carpets. Most offer great views of the castle and the sea from the balcony or window, giving the visitor the feeling of traveling.

The historic buildings of Byzantino Boutique Hotel are:

16th century building named Giannouli, which due to its location near the main gate on the main street of the Castle, was always a commercial store. In 1855 it was photographed and fully captured as a model building of the Castle State by Robert Schultz and Sidney Barnsley of the English School of Archeology. Today it houses the main reception of our hotel, as well as a Superior Double Room with Balcony upstairs.

Complex of two buildings called Aetos, with an inner courtyard located right on the main square of the Castle, known as "Kanoni". The building took its name from the iron forged door with the double-headed eagle and houses 5 rooms.

Complex of two buildings named Seragia, with an inner courtyard in the district known as "Cretan", next to the Church of Myrtidiotissa, and which houses 4 rooms.

The Café Byzantino and Baron Building They are housed in a building of the 1st Ottoman Empire (c. 1540 AD) which was an Ottoman mansion with a private bath in its lower part and was named after the French baron Jean Paul De Bolny, who was its owner in the early 20th century. The building has the largest roof (veranda) in Kastropoliteia, which today belongs to the Café Bar "Venetian", and in addition to the "Venetian", houses the Café Byzantino, which offers breakfast of 4 rooms.

Hammam Building of the 1st Ottoman Empire (c. 1540 AD) which was the only public mixed bath (hamam) of the Castle that operated until the 1950s. Its architectural style and decoration belongs to the Turko-Baroque style (morisco). In its basements are the large water storage tanks, as well as two or three external fireplaces, today it houses 4 rooms

The owner, manager and host of Byzantino Boutique Hotel is Anna Traiforou. I first met her 8 years ago when at the hotel of the Traiforos family she had prepared for the show the Greek Breakfast of Monemvasia and Laconia and at the same time she had impressed me for her gastronomic knowledge and her cooking.

As a continuation of this effort Byzantino Boutique Hotel presents the most enjoyable Greek Breakfast in Monemvasia, made from locally selected products, based on traditional recipes prepared with passion by Anna in the ultra-elegant café Byzantino. The buffet includes fruit salad, yogurt, boiled (or cayenne) eggs, various olives, cucumbers, pure honey from local producers, homemade jams and pastries, individual butters, as well as a plate of cheese and cold cuts with feta cheese, and local cheeses Ladotyri and Touloumotyri (from local producers), homemade pies (cheese pie, green pie, or chicken pie), rice milk, apple pie, trachanas sweet, brustula (sweet trachanopita), petaritses (local pancakes), honey fava beans, olives and oregano, grilled local sausage, bruschettas with pulp and oil, lalangia, socks with mizithra and honey, homemade tsoureki, homemade praline and many other recipes that Anna can create or discover in her grandmother's drawer.
