Antonis Fish Tavern in Elafonisos

On the coastal road of the settlement that passes in front of its port Deer up, fish taverns are lined up, side by side, and on both sidewalks on both sides visitors have the pleasure of enjoying the rocking of dozens of fishing boats. In the center of the port and opposite the church of Agios Spyridon is located Antonis family fish tavern, probably the most popular on the island. Owners of the tavern are the Antony, who is both the deputy mayor of the island and his immobile wife Chrysoula.

The menu at the fish tavern Antonis includes fresh fish, fine seafood, meat and cooked with taste by Chrysoula's mother, Mrs. Maria. The spaghetti with octopus, the rooster with spaghetti and the moussaka of Mrs. Maria are really unbeatable! And while the menu is retro and reminiscent of the 1970s with color photographs of the dishes, if you look closely you will find and bird's milk, and in fact modern dishes, such as seafood risotto with saffron, risotto with cuttlefish ink, barley with shrimp, linguine with crayfish, penne with salmon, penne with chicken. From what you understand in the tavern of Antonis there is no case with the most diverse tastes not to be satisfied with the variety, but also with the quality of the food he will order.

We spoke with Antonis, who told us the story of the fish tavern:

«I opened the store, in this space, the 1994 as an ouzo, and the 2013 I came back and turned it into a tavern. Fortunately we are big family and those who work here are relatives and so the people are served, because in August the island has more than 5.000 tourists in addition to those who come the same day!

I work with three or four fishermen, and if there is a storm for a long time, I do not sell fish, farmed or frozen fish do not enter the store. Our oil is from opposite the Elafonissia olive groves in Pounta, like most of our Zarzavatika.

We are very lucky and privileged, because the bay of Vatika (of Naples) in front of us, is very rich in fish, first class fish, lobsters, crayfish, octopuses, and rarely can not feed us».
