Diamantis Fish Tavern

Ο Gerakas is a small settlement - port of the homonymous village located 2 km above the mountain slope - built at the bottom of a beautiful fjord, on the east coast of Laconia and at a distance of about 20 km from Monemvasia. This sheltered elongated creek, is the only safe haven in the Eastern Peloponnese from Argolida and south, and for this all summer you will see moored sailing boats and boats to find peace there, while their passengers enjoy their dives in the blue waters. Along the way - up to a point watching the bay - there are a few holiday homes and three fish taverns that offer visitors fresh fish and the mini shrimp of the lagoon located at the bottom of the fjord.

Right here, at the point where the bay becomes a lagoon, the Diamantis tavern, which is also the most popular. The reason is that their father's old tavern Diamond Langi, took over in 2015 the children Costas and Eleni and managed to create a tavern that combines the characteristics of a typical fish tavern with modern culinary concepts of fish and seafood.

Based on their father's fishing, which continues with its boat, "Evangelistra" to supply them daily, and the creations of Eleni who has studied chef, a very interesting menu is formed, from which apart from the fish and squid that are grilled we stood out:

  • Diamantis salad (green salad, with fresh tuna and sauce),
  • the seasonal salad (mixed with Monemvasia manor and balsamic),
  • the prawns (pits in the pan with local shrimp and herbs),
  • the traditional shuttles (pits with greens),
  • the wine octopus on fava beans with caramelized onions,
  • the noodles with seafood in the hull,
  • the barley with cuttlefish,
  • the fish carpaccio (we tried red mullet carpaccio which was a dream!)
  • and crab risotto,

It is worth noting that for starters it comes, along with the blankets and the rustic toast bread drizzled with local oil, as a treat a small mug with warm, dense and delicious fish soup, a fact that makes you feel good about your morale and mood!

At the end of the gastronomic pleasure we talked to the "kids":

«Our father Diamantis He came from a family of cattle breeders, shepherds, and traveled on Royal ships as a bartender, sending money to his home in Reichea in the mountains to have his boat built in the middle of the orchard. When the boat was finished, my father left the boats, lowered the boat to Gerakas, bought a house, and started fishing in 1994. We grew up here and studied in Athens, I was Accounting and my sister Mageiriki. We worked for our relatives in Spetses when we gained the relevant experience from good shops and in 2015, our father handed over the shop to us and limited himself to fishing, but where is also the strong paper of our work. Despite the fact that we have fallen into many crises, we are very happy with our work and especially our quality of life. We keep the tavern open not only during the summer season but also on Fridays and weekends all year round!».

The customer reviews of Diamantis Tavern are extremely good, both for the location, which fills you with peace and authentic beauty - we were lucky enough to watch some gray urchins sunbathe in the lagoon - as well as for the cuisine, the service and especially for courtesy of Kostas, Eleni and their collaborators. And all this gives the "kids" a lot of courage to continue creating, acting as distinguished ambassadors of gastronomy of Monemvasia.

"Children" thank you!
