Dalamara Winery

Just before you enter city of Naoussa, on the road in your right hand, is the Dalamara estate. A kind lad, o Kostis, continues the family tradition and taking the baton from his father Giannis Dalamaras, after studying oenology-viticulture in Burgundy, in Beaune, after gaining experience in Alsace, Roussillon and Catalonia, he married the tradition with the most modern international winemaking techniques, giving new life to the historic winery at the entrance of the city of Naoussa after taking over in 2011 the production of the winery.

The vineyard of Dalamara Winery is in organic farming since 1996, certified by BioHellas and since 2008 an effort has been made to use biodynamic practices. The production exceeds 30 thousand bottles per year, of which 2/3 are exported to America, Canada, Japan, but also to Europe (Germany, France, England).

The cultivated lands are 50 acres with xinomavro to be the dominant variety of the vineyard, while merlot and negoska are also cultivated from white varieties of malagouzia, assyrtiko and rhodite. The basic labels of the Dalamara estate are: Thoos, Kapnistos, Ayerohos, Naousa, Domaine Dalamaras vieilles vignes, Paliokalias with the last and typical Naoussa stealing the impressions!

«It used to be a stable here. It belonged to my grandfather, Costa, who in 1963 decided to turn it into a winery. In this area they used to make wine from xinomavro and cinsault, a variety that no longer exists. But the history of our Winery begins before the middle of the pre-previous century when in 1840 o Ioannis Georgiou Dalamaras created his first vineyard in Naoussa, and whose contract for the purchase of a plot of land is still preserved».

Kostis loves the estate, the family vineyards and the tradition of his place. She tells us about her celebration of Kartsounos, collected from the surrounding areas, in January, after Boilers which take place in November, and where fires are lit and large cauldrons with tripe are boiled, while in the summer in the middle of the estate and in a wooden shed, next to a built barbecue, the summer festivities take place.

The visitable area of the winery he is small and hospitable. A low-ceilinged room with wooden beams and a wooden roof, a lit fireplace and benches covered with rugs and a narrow table, on the north side the sea bream distillery, and a small museum with work tools. On the walls are photos from old parties and loved ones, with the dominant one being that of the grandparents.

Kostis Dalamaras he is married, lives with his wife Maria here on the estate, with their horses and their gardens and dreams of the evolution of his wines: «I like to strive for the good quality of our wines, to make them better and better! He says, smiling modestly. We wish him all the best!
