Bamiha Grocery "Acropolis"

At 11 Theofilou Street, a few meters from its main square Naoussa it is located Acropolis Grocery of Bamiha family, the oldest store in the city that stands out from its green wooden old frames and the style of the shop window. Two inscriptions describe the store's story: Hunting items - cheese and next to it a smaller inscription that reads cop, smoked cop, feta, cheese, gruyere, pastourmas, kavourmas, cod.

The "Acropolis" of the Bamiha family is the only grocery store that survived the dozens that existed before the arrival of the Supermarkets. We wandered around the beautiful area of ​​the store, tasted the cheeses and had a conversation with Marianna Konstantinidi, granddaughter of the founder of the grocery store:

«The 1936 our grandfather Stergios Bamichas, returns from America, where he went as an economic immigrant and opens a grocery store in Naoussa at 11 Theofilou Street (in the same place where it is today). He has at work his two sons Thanasis and Nikos. Then my father Thanasis Bamichas took over. From a young age I helped my father. We remember that friends and customers used to come to the store and their father would serve sea bream and appetizers… "We drink more than we sell," he would tell us with a smile. After 2000 I received the store. We had difficult years, change was difficult. We had to face a competition beyond our means. We focused on quality products and mainly on cheese. Our cheeses are "Late" - outdated - and have a more interesting taste, the supermarkets, because of the mass are fresh and less delicious. Now the shop has been taken over by my son Isaac Konstantinidis and me, my husband and I help every day».

I took a look at the products, old grocery store, cans, soups Knorr, Merenda, old candies, coffees, lamps, dried fruits, organic products, legumes, gas stoves, hunting items.
