Amfiliki Tavern

Of course they do not care about him at all Mr. Christos and his sister, a cook, who every day in winter and summer serve Skiathos flavors, the most authentic Skiathos on the island while all the vegetables are served from the thirty acres of vegetable gardens.

Amfiliki is hidden near the Acropolis of Skiathos, away from the tourist side of the port, high on the slope of the beach. Great Sand with a stunning view of the sea and the islands of Tsougria and Tsougriaki. The tavern is managed by Christos Kalogiannis with his family (his sister Maria, his wife and daughter).

As soon as we set foot on the island, three different friends from the past, but also relatively recent, knowing my interest in local cuisine, invited me for dinner - individually - to eat local cuisine at the tavern Amfiliki. What a coincidence!

Mr. Christos old sailor was reunited young in his thirties by his wife, her Kiss, on land and slowly built a simple and tidy tavern with some rooms, above, below the store and so they entered the bio-fight. These bio-wrestlers without degrees, schools and so on, honest, popular and humble brought to the surface the soul and the taste of Skiathos cuisine. The simplicity and elegance of popular cuisine.

«Skiathos had mainly two types of food, seafood and Baxevanika. The fishermen exchanged their products with the farmers, but in the end they both ate more or less the same food. The marriage of fish and seafood with vegetables is the backbone of Skiathos cuisine.»

We tried combing grouper with tomato, a poem!

The shells (this is what the Skiathos called the crayfish and the lobsters, because they did not have fish and they did not fluff) they cooked them mainly with vegetables. Here one of the most beautiful dishes of the tavern Amfiliki are crayfish with zucchini. Thespian light and elegant taste!

Vlachs, ribs stew while we also tried smoked sklepouda (peskandritsa) liver. Simple, complex, sought-after appetizers came by the hand of Mr. Christos, along with the relevant explanations on the table for two hours.

We tried them too shoes, the Skiathos vegetable pies, so named probably because of their shape.

To end with the shop of the philosopher of Skiathos cuisine - remember me, in a little while a lot of people will talk about Amfiliki -, we understood that something is happening here when we sat at the table, because a bread with yeast came to us the ones you do not often find in the countryside. The professionals of the wider area of ​​gastronomy of Skiathos (agricultural sector - processing - catering - hospitality), with the support of the Municipality of Skiathos, collaborate and created the Gastronomic Community of Skiathos. Their goal is to record and highlight the gastronomic wealth, as well as the quality gastronomic offer of Skiathos.

The Gastronomic Community of Skiathos is an open system in which those who are interested and meet the conditions arising from the regulations of the Gastronomy and Wine Tourism program can join. The ultimate goal of the action is to make Skiathos a tourist destination, where gastronomy will play a leading role in shaping the identity and cultural identity of the place.
