Chaimalia
While macaroons are the sweets you find in all the Aegean islands - almond trees are the only fruit trees, along with figs that do not need water -, what stands out and characterizes the Shadow (except macaroons) are the chaimalia.
With frequent references to the short stories of the two short story writers of the island (Al. Papadiamantis, Al. Moraitidis), the amulet It is a fried dough (similar to xerotigana), stuffed with walnuts, honey, bread crumbs, cinnamon and nutmeg, which with excess art is made in a pouch-like shape, which is finally sprinkled with powdered sugar.
The peculiarity of the heimal lies in intricate shape but also in its content, and this is because there were plenty of walnuts on the island - in contrast to the other islands - and so they supplied the walnuts to make the heimalia.
The Himalayas, even today, are offered as wedding favors at weddings and christenings and of course are the sweetest souvenir one can get from Skiathos.
