That's it Exantas Bar-Restaurant is located on beach of Megali Ammos, 5 minutes walk from the settlement Skiathos and its history is of great interest as it is one of the paradoxes of Greek gastronomy. That is how a simple small hotel of the 1970s nowadays has on its premises perhaps the most interesting restaurant in Skiathos.

«The 1972, fifty years ago, at the time when the emblematic Skiathos Palace in Koukounaries was built, our father Stathis Zoukas built on the then beautiful and pristine beach Megali Ammos which was also the closest to the port of Skiathos, the Megali Ammos House, a small guest house that in 1999 was significantly expanded.

In 1999, the boys of the family, o Costas and Thanasis, after we both studied mathematics, we took over the hotel and in 2001 on a terrace above the beach, where we used to have breakfast, we set up our restaurant in Exantas. In 2005 thanks to a cook we had then Markus, we were introduced to creative cuisine and since then we have focused on becoming the best and quality the island has.

15 years have passed since Exantas, several young chefs, each of whom has left his mark on today's menu, as in our area the chefs found the freedom to create the best they could. From 2019 our chef is the Michalis Reizis and next to him Seraphim of Argyri. In recent years I think we have reached the level we wanted from the beginning, and in 2018 we renovated our 30 rooms!»

Exantas Bar - Restaurant is not so visible from the mainland, you have to go through some alleys and houses that hide it, but when you arrive the magic terrace overlooking the beautiful beach of Megali Ammos. The service of Exantas is familiar, polite and helpful, led by Kostas and Thanasis.

In a courtyard of a tidy little hotel without the high parchments of four- and five-star hotels, there is a gastronomic oasis. And of course it is a shining example of the fact that good cuisine is not the result of investments and strong names, but of a deep and essential love for modern creative Greek cuisine and its creators.

As for the gastronomic adventure now, from rich menu of Exantas Bar - Restaurant we chose 4-5 dishes that impressed us all. The wine list is also interesting and rich.

First on the table in an ultra-elegant basket, we got the handmade rolls with sourdough. With them a bowl of olive oil mixed with oil from pine needles. A magnificent welcome!

This was followed by a refreshing soup with cucumber, melon and Evrytania prosciutto chips.

From the appetizers we tried sardines married with vine leaf chips with lemon foam,

sea ​​bass carpaccio with basil, coriander and orange sorbet,

fresh handmade ravioli with lobster filling,

tuna tartare with beetroot and onion ash,

grilled squid with beans, beads and Lefkada salami.

For main we tried the most interesting dish of the menu, fagri stew with onion textures which we consider that has a place on the menu of any 3-star Michelin restaurant in the world:

Freshly fried fillet, braised onion, onion pickles, crackers flavored with onion ashes, mashed onion. Serve with butter sauce from the onion juices.

The serving of food at Exantas Restaurant starts at noon and ends at the diner, and because its tables are not many, it is good - especially at night - to make online and telephone reservations.

GASTRONOMIC COMMUNITY OF SKIATHOS

The professionals of the wider area of ​​gastronomy of Skiathos (agricultural sector - processing - catering - hospitality), with the support of the Municipality of Skiathos, collaborate and created the Gastronomic Community of Skiathos. Their goal is to record and highlight the gastronomic wealth, as well as the quality gastronomic offer of Skiathos.

The Gastronomic Community of Skiathos is an open system in which those who are interested and meet the conditions arising from the regulations of the Gastronomy and Wine Tourism program can join. The ultimate goal of the action is to make Skiathos a tourist destination, where gastronomy will play a leading role in shaping the identity and cultural identity of the place.

The Gastronomic Communities program has the honor of being under the auspices of the Hellenic Tourism Organization.
