The Olympia (cafe of Zisimos)
The coffee-confectionery "The Olympia" and according to the locals the cafe of Zisimos was a reference point of her city Corfu, since until 2013 it was his only cafe Liston who had survived and even maintained until then all his glamor and nobility.
The Liston, built according to the plans of the Rue de Rivoli in Paris, owes its name to the golden list of the rich from the time of the Venetians, who only then had access to this street.
The cafe "The Olympia", his creation Zisimou Papafloratou, worked from 1928 succeeding the famous St. George Hotel lobby. It was then that the hotel was in its heyday and hosted Oscar Wilde, Lawrence Darrell and dozens of other celebrities. Billiards may have been gone since then, but it remained a café that retained all the old-fashioned nobility, with the dominant pattern being the plaster-painted ceiling, the mirrors and the elegant furniture.
A place rich in memories - who will forget the deceased Living, the unforgettable Rena Vlachopoulou when a seventeen-year-old girl first sang it 1938 on stage in front of the cafe - but also the veteran waiters always dressed in their hair with the green jacket and tie to serve coffees, sweets, ouzo with the exquisite appetizers.
Olympia no longer exists, fell victims of the misunderstood development, but the atmosphere of Liston is imprinted in the memory of the old but also in the physiognomy of the other shops of the historic gallery that have been greatly influenced by the cafe of Zisimos.
