Venetian Well

By common confession the Venetian Well is its most atmospheric restaurant Corfu, not only because it is located in the most picturesque square of the old town, the Kremastis square, in front of the church of Panagia Kremasti (16th century) and in one of the most elaborate Venetian wells that adorn it, but because it is housed in a beautiful mansion of Venetian architecture.

Nestling in this quiet corner, among all the patina buildings with their warm earthy colors, the marble paving that surrounds the well, the green note from the exuberant bougainvilleas, but also with the very careful uniform white dress of the waiters, you get the you are transported to the heart of the Renaissance and the Most Peaceful Republic. The journey is instantaneous and the sensual and taste experience unparalleled.

The story of the restaurant is relatively recent, since just the 2014 ο Yannis Vlachos and his wife Peace they took the risk of managing an old, parchment-free tavern - which closed in 2009 due to building problems and remained closed for about 3 years - to restore the building and revitalize the area, creating a unique restaurant in the old town. An important activity of Giannis Vlachos in the gastronomic events of Corfu had preceded, when he gave breath, prestige and samples of great cuisine, taking over in 2007 the lobby of the Corfu Reading Society (Μember Club Restaurant) until 2013.

We met Giannis Vlachos and he told us about his achievement:

«In this area, a narrow above I grew up and from a young age I admired this square for its uniqueness in the old town. It seemed like something magical to me! When we finally got the space, we realized that in the restaurant located in such a unique location, we should create a kitchen that is at least at its height, does not disappoint the expectations of our guests and enhances the magic of the atmosphere.

The Venetian Well, from 2014 until today, is constantly in gastronomic effervescence, as we have an inexhaustible passion and love for gastronomy.

We work with Greek small producers so that we can have excellent quality in our raw material, we have cellars that keep in excellent conditions the best wines - over 200 labels -, the best years of the Greek and international vineyard. Our kitchen is modern and creative with efforts to renew the Corfiot cuisine».

From dishes we singled him out:

• Barley with cuttlefish ink, cooked in shrimp broth, squid, mussels and shrimp.
• Corfiot pastitsada in the form of open ravioli with chicken flavored with spetseriko and parmesan cream.
• Fish fillet rolled in celery baby vegetables, beetroot textures celery cream Messolonghi roe and air lime.
• Lamb cooked in a vacuum for 24 hours, with eggplant puree, fig chutney and potato flavored with marjoram and thyme.
• Dairy veal sweets with smoked bun cream, beetroot mushrooms and orange flavored sauce.
• Finally, the semolina halva with orange, guanaja chocolate mousse and kumquat sorbet completed our gastronomic feast.

The reviews of the public and experts show that the Venetian Well writes its history and at the same time contributes to the renewal of Corfu cuisine.

It is no coincidence that recently the well-known British journalist, writer and editor of the Daily Mail Thomas W. Hodgkinson, writing about his experience on the island of Corfu, wrote, among other things, that at Venetian Well they prepared not only the most delicious meal he had in Corfu, but the best meal ever anywhere!
