Rex

The Rex restaurant is located on Kapodistriou Street, on one of its most important streets Corfu. The canton of Kapodistrios is the first parallel behind Liston and the beautiful Spianada square, where the heart of the city beats.

The Rex, a classic hangout of the Corfiots from 1932, is located among the historic buildings left behind by the French and was first operated by Kasimi family which came from the Ottomans. In 1945 the management was taken over by Giannis Dimoulitsas and in 1955 the Katsaros family. First Nikolaos Katsaros and from 1975 his nephew Alexandros Katsaros who manages it for forty years until today, despite the fact that in recent years the baton is handed over timidly to the children of Pericles and Nicoleta.

One of the most traditional Corfu restaurants, the Rex restaurant has a stable address, a fanatical clientele and a family atmosphere with the most gentle and fast service.

In winter it is housed in the ground floor room of a historic building that was recently refreshed with a tasteful renovation, with the watercolors of the Corfu painter Th. Kentarchou to give their touch to the space and a gold-plated baroque mirror to steal the show.

Of course, no matter how warm and friendly the atmosphere of the closed room is, the privileged space of Rex is when the tables outside in the cobbled cantonment. And not only for the beautiful view and the aura of the old city, but because from here the whole of Corfu will parade and if you are a local, you will meet friends and acquaintances, and if you are a visitor, you will see the features of the place and you will enjoy their wonderful Corfiot melodic locality.

In terms of food, at Rex restaurant you will eat Corfiot, that is, portions rich in classic Corfiot dishes, such as the sofrito, the burdeto, the pastitsada, in their most authentic versions, but also new creative recipes, always made with local materials such as salads or risotto with numbulo, Corfiot cream cheese and kumquat, from which I went crazy with the juvetsi squid with fennel seeds, saffron and ouzo. In summer, fish is served that is cooked as the customer wishes.

The Rex restaurant rightly boasts that it is the reference point restaurant in the center of its city Corfu.
